Balorbane (New Gothic Horror Novel)

Me father’s book has been published! Set in the moors of Devon, England in the mid 1800’s it’s a twisted tale of murder, revenge, the supernatural and more…

Balorbane

by Andrew J. Skinner
ISBN #: 978-0-557-20968-2

Here is a tale for the telling. As near to the telling of it as I can remember. A dark story of a black Mastiff and a Raven; in whose spirit or likeness did they roam the haunted moors? Bleak and very little populated, a small community of farming people managed to scratch a living from its barren face. Upon such a scene, the only thing anyone should have to deal with is the elements…but there were other events…strange events. Four brothers, Stickles by name, ravaged the countryside. Attempts to arrest them by human means failed. A supernatural force takes form in the shape of a black Mastiff, known as The Hound, and its companion, The Raven. Each had its own reason for being rid of the Stickles…

Artifacts From The Dark Side

Fabulous new book available from our good mate Doktor Luciferi (aka Dr. Robert Ing)

Artifacts From The Dark Side features photographs and descriptions of selected exhibit pieces from The East York Museum of Curiosities. The East York Museum of Curiosities is a traveling mobile museum exhibit that provides the public a once in a lifetime opportunity to personally experience the theatrics and artifacts that astounded attendees of Cabinets of Curiosities from the 15th to 18th centuries and were truly the precursors to the modern day museum. However, unlike modern day museums, in keeping with the early tradition of curiosities on display, the attendees view a collection of real, rare and original fictional artifacts, never seen before in this century and perhaps may never to be seen again. This book was created to offer those who have not seen the curiosities exhibit an opportunity to do so through the selection offered by photograph and description therein.

The Sultan’s Elephant

By pure accident I happened upon an interesting series of volumes written and conceived for a theatrical performance by Royal de Luxe in London in 2006. The story is wonderful and will take you back to a time when literature was valued for it’s ability to offer one a way to escape from a hectic world. Please take the time to visit the website, explore this amazing theatrical adventure and read this wondrous story.

Below is the link to video footage taken during the street performance by Royal de Luxe. The mechanical creature is something out of Jules Verne’s mind and the Victorian age of science and technology.
I am very intrigued with the entire idea of the 3 day performance and wished I had been in London when it took place.

Are You V.A.P.I.D.?

How it seems like ages since we have last chatted and so many things have transpired over the weeks.. but as usual Mrs. M. has come back with some interesting and exciting news regarding our latest soiree into all things Lowbrow.
The Victorian Association of Parachronistic & Idiosyncratic Diversions or V.A.P.I.D. for short.

My darling Michael Furey and meself have put together a “Secret Society” of sorts  and for those of you interested we invite you to delve further into this with a few of our favorite friends to uncover a sinister mix of pleasure and poor taste.

Think “Luscious flavourful ice cream on a hot day smothered in velvety rich Blood” – what could be more tantalizing, yet repulsive ?

We will soon make an official announcement for 2 spectacular events in October in a truly dark and foreboding location. There will be many things to tempt your soul including a visit from our favorite Master of the Macabre ~ Doktor Luciferi and his traveling museum of Curiosities, along with entertainment and intrigue that will tantalize and horrify. These will be wondrous events unlike any other you have dared to attend.

Stay tuned me Luvs…there will be more to come…

…aka “Cirque du Freak”

This could be interesting…and it was filmed in my second home – New Orleans (though the film location is “Anywhere, USA”).

The movie tells the story of a young boy who falls in with a band of vampires while visiting a bizarre sideshow. The trailer begins with the words, “It was an ordinary, normal, predictable life — until things got freaky.” A good example of “be careful what you wish for”.

From there, it shows a series of sideshow-type characters, including a bearded Salma Hayek, and a brief taste of the plot, in which John C. Reilly talks the boy into becoming a vampire. It’s clear from the style of visual effects — and from the bearded Hayek — that Weitz isn’t going so much for a realistic feel as a surrealistic one.

“The Vampire’s Assistant” is based on the first three books in author Darren Shan’s “Darren Shan Saga,” which is divided into four three-book cycles. It is scheduled to open in theaters Oct. 23.

The first teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s production of “Alice In Wonderland” has dis-appeared…and re-appeared! It WAS up at IGN and a few other spots last month…but then the spoilsports at Disney apparently had a hissy fit and removed it. No pie for them… Now it seems they’ve mellowed and the trailer is available at YouTube and other sites…and here thanks to some kind folks Here, instead, is a link to some luverly pictures of the characters http://alice-in-wonderland-movie-trailer.blogspot.com/

Poppets, Villages & Curiosities

I’ve been busy with so many things it’s sometimes difficult to keep track…

New Penny Dreadful Poppets™ will soon be available for sale… These are just the most adorable little macabre beings.. straight from me very own hand to you!!!

I have been scribbling like a mad woman on some new half penny dreadfuls and will also be working on making The Accidental Murderess into a short silent film of about 4 minutes with the song  “When You’re Evil”  by the wonderfully sinister tongue n’ cheek Voltaire as the soundtrack . I know this is going to be a lot of fun to do.. and if any of you are interested in doing some off-the-cuff acting of sorts please write me and let me know..  I will post the list of required actors shortly.

I am now working at Westfield Heritage Village with my darling eccentric husband Michael Furey on certain Sundays, imagine someone hired me and at the Apothecary no less. What a delightfully evil place it is too. All sorts of wondrous poisons and implements of destruction. You know this shop is home to Dr. Beattie and his dental and surgical procedures. It is truly a dream come true for Mrs. M. sure beats poppin’ pussycats in pies… (as well I am taking on the duties of an Historical Interpreter during the week for schools & tours… Lucky Children!!).

Contact the Village to book tours, special events/occasions.

Michael & I may be appearing at Cayuga’s 150th celebration Historical Fashion Show as well. Negotiations are in the works, for this I may need to find me very best Late Victorian Finery in me  “closet of oblivion”  that place where we all put things never to be seen again.

Mrs. M is also planning an event for October that will be like nothing you’ve seen before! Exciting, unique, macabre and filled with curiosities…at a dark and secret location…  I’m just waiting for word from me dear friend Doktor Luciferi on when he may return from his travels so that we may choose the exact dates…more on this soon.

Well… me Luvs…  please stay in touch.. I know how difficult it is sometimes.. until that time….
