New Things Afoot…
After many years of working hard in the historical field and living in Hamilton, I have decided to make the leap forward and attempt to bring to fruition a life long dream of mine. To run a historical museum. Yes, most museums are historical in nature but what I believe is Hamilton truly needs a museum of its own. One that shows the public its history from start to present and a living museum at that. There are plenty of “museums” in our city most of which are actual historical residences or locations that only talk of their history. None of these address the city’s history on the whole. This is where we want to fit in. This will not be an easy task I’m sure. We have no building, no funds and minimal artifacts, but I do have an extensive background in all things archaeological, historical and experience operating a museum so with this we move forward. Now comes the task of convincing others with the means to back our ideas and support our venture. Much thought has gone into this and we feel somewhere in the downtown core is where such a place needs to be. A place where our cities populace can visit and feel proud that Hamilton is their home as well easily accessible for tourists. I want it to be a building filled with memories and photographs and bits and bobs of our illustrious heritage. A place where schools can bring children and learn about all things Hamilton. We have a great city and Michael and I are proud to call it home. It’s the first city where I feel comfortable and I did not grow up here. As a matter of fact I am a recent resident of just over 5 years now, but I am a strong supporter of this city and there are many who will tell you this. One does not come to Hamilton and not fall in love. We have wondrous things to see, historical buildings of merit and many firsts happened here. We have artists and musicians and writers and a prolific new culture emerging which oddly enough ties into the very Victorian path we started from. This city was a hub for the vaudeville scene, many well-known actors have graced our streets, theatres and hotels. Writers such as Oscar Wilde who wrote of Hamilton’s charm and men and women who have made Hamilton a success past and present. Because of all this I believe we need a museum of this type here. So, from this moment forward my intentions are out there, lets hope others see our vision as well. More to come as we develop our plan and move ahead…
